This, I do not understand: how is it that only a few days ago the winter solstice brought us the shortest day of the year? And today, December 24 is unquestionably the longest day of the year?

Today I spend wrapping up some last minute tasks (although I am not a high-pressure Christmas kind of a person) and preparing Christmas Eve dinner and getting the house ready for tomorrow morning's chaos.

But mostly today I spend pacifying the children, who will not think they can possibly wait until tomorrow morning. Whose happy anticipation threatens to spill over at every minute. Who will spend the day carefully watching the gifts under the tree and making sure the fireplace is ready for Santa, and who will by tonight be checking the skies and listening for bells outside their bedroom window.
Christmas here will be a magical day. I hope it is for you too. I wish you much happiness.

  1. Christmas = <3

Kim and I are having the most wonderful Christmas right now. It's 5:30 PM here in Sweden as I write, and it's really quite wonderful. I'm playing Händel as we prepare our modest Christmas Eve dinner in the Dennis & Paulette Creswellian tradition of simplicity equals perfection: crackers, expensive cheeses, egg rolls, homemade Swedish christmas bread, glögg (vanilla!), and a "Gottlansk saffrons pankaka," a weird rice thingy that we bake..

ANYWAY--Hope everything is absolutely wonderful with you and the kids.. we're really enjoying it all sans kids!

    Merry Christmas!

  2. Merry Christmas to my super-cute nephews! We love you all very much and congratulations on newest cousin Hannah!

  3. Merry Christmas! I just wrapped the last of the gifts...from my dad to my mom. We're at their house and I feel like I'm in high school again...wrapping the gifts for dear old Dad. the pomengranate photo from your last post. LOVE that color!

  4. Merry Christmas!! I hope you have a wonderful day.

Our flight to Iowa was canceled earlier in the week and we're hoping to make it out early tomorrow morning. Thankfully the boys aren't "calendar watchers" yet - and i forgot about the advent calendar! phew! - so we will celebrate Christmas on Saturday with the family!
